Nepal Expedition - Khumbu Mountaineering
Pachermo Peak - 6187m
Pachermo peak was first climbed in 1955. It is an attractive snow peak, which lies to the south of the Tashi Lapcha, a high pass at 5750m that lies between the Khumbu and the Rolwaling Himal.
It has a north-by-northwest ridge, which rises from the crevassed glacier astride the Tashi Lapcha. We have a high camp near the Tashi Lapcha then have to cross wide, crevassed snow slopes to gain the north ridge of Pachermo. The ridge is followed with little difficulties, although in some conditions crevasses might give problems towards the summit. Several parties have reported a difficult ice step caused by a large crevasse about 300 ft from the summit. This changes year on year, and that is all part of the adventure!
Highlights include:
Acclimatise on Sumdur Peak above the village of Thame (4500m)
Ascend though the valley of the Bhote Kosi from Namche Bazaar
Spectacular views down into the Rolwaling Valley
Gain the Tashi Lapcha - the high pass and old trade route from the Khumbu into Rolwaling
Make an attempt on this quiet trekking peak - Pachermo at 6187m
A rare opportunity to climb a 6000m peak in a relatively short trip
3rd - 22nd April, 2027
Arriving in Kathmandu on April 4th, and departing for home on April 21st, 2027
£4250 per person - land only price (6 places available)
This is a fully supported expedition, based mainly in lodges throughout the trekking phase, but camping in tents above the village of Thame. The cost includes in-country transport and flights, accommodation, guiding throughout, food throughout excluding lunches and dinners in Kathmandu, all group camping equipment, and hotel nights in Kathmandu at the start and end of the expedition.
Not included are international flights, your personal climbing and camping equipment, insurance suitable for 6000m Himalayan mountains, tips for staff and guides, additional drinks (including all alcohol), and lunches and dinners while in Kathmandu.
This expedition is suitable for any fit mountain walker with basic winter skills (ice axe and crampon use on Scottish Munros). The peak is relatively non-technical, but may (depending on conditions) require the use of jumars for ascending, and abseil devices for descending. Some knowledge of using fixed ropes is an advantage - contact Graham Uney in advance (below) if you aren’t sure about your suitability for this expedition.
