Mentoring
Instructor Training and Assessment Packages
Over the years since Graham Uney Mountaineering started delivering Mountain Training qualification courses and Mountain Training Association workshops, we’ve run a number of mentoring schemes, and combined training and assessment packages. For our latest iteration of packages we’ve decided to offer three levels of training and assessment combined with a range of attractive refresher workshops, shadowing experiences and mentoring. These three levels are aimed at those who want to do Lowland Leader, Hill and Moorland Leader, and Mountain Leader respectively. To increase the value of your time training and assessing with Graham Uney Mountaineering, and to offer you something a little bit more to enable you to become a more rounded, employable instructor, you can also buy into a range of other courses at a discount. These three levels, and additional courses available, are detailed below including what you get at each level, and the cost involved:

How it works.
As with all Mountain Training courses, first of all you must register for the qualification/s you wish to take part in. You register with Mountain Training - we can give you advice on this if you’re not sure. You must also meet the prerequisites of the training and assessment courses in order to take part. You can register and check these prerequisites on the Mountain Training website.
Once you have registered you can choose from any of our available training courses - then pay the fee (as above) to enter our Instructor Training and Assessment Package. We’ll then chat with you about your training course, and check that you have sufficient walks logged in your DLOG - we can help with this if you’re not sure. You then come on the training course and join other candidates also undergoing training with us (they may not be taking part in these packages, as all courses are also bookable as individual courses). After your training we’ll have meetings with you to mentor you towards your assessment, discussing an action plan that works for you, and helping you to decide what further training and practice you might need. From the date of your training course your Package is valid for two years (for Lowland Leader and Hill and Moorland Leader) or three years (for Mountain Leader). This means that as our course costs increase from year to year, for you the course fee is fixed for the duration of your package - so you know right from the start what this will cost you. If you need more time to consolidate you’ll just pay any difference between the course fees now and the course fees when you take your assessment. During that time you can access all of the other workshops contained within your package, as detailed above, as well as mentoring as needed. This is a reasonable length of time for you to consolidate your skills prior to assessment, and we will go through your action plan and DLOG again with you to help you decide when you’re ready for the assessment. You then choose the assessment dates that best suit you. Beyond your assessment we are here to advise you on gaining further experience, maybe going for other outdoor qualifications, keeping your skills current, and perhaps on where and how to gain work as a newly qualified Leader.
Additional Training Opportunities
In addition to all of the benefits of our packages above, once you have entered our training package you can take advantage of a massive range of other courses we offer, either to give you better personal skills in the mountains, or perhaps another qualification. There’s lots on offer, and the best news is, for our package candidates we offer 10% off the cost of all of these courses during the validity of your package. Yes! You can have 10% off the following:
