Lowland Leader Training
The Lowland Leader is a nationally accredited scheme from Mountain Training, designed to train and assess those who want to gain a qualification to lead groups on day-walks in lowland countryside, woodland and coastal areas in summer conditions. Graham Uney Mountaineering offers both training and assessment elements of the qualification at carefully selected venues. This gives you the ideal learning environment along with the chance to discover some of the most beautiful lowland walking destinations in the UK.
Prerequisites
Before you book onto the Lowland Leader training course;
You must be registered on the scheme.
You must have recorded a minimum of 10 varied walks in Lowland terrain where the use of a map is required, which can have taken place at any point (pre or post registration).
Please ensure you have entered your minimum prerequisites in your digital logbook (DLOG) at the time of confirming your place on the course.
The full syllabus and Scheme Handbook can be viewed on the Mountain Training website here
Our Lowland Leader training courses take place over two days with outdoor sessions entirely on footpaths or trails that offer suitable terrain within the scope of the award, with plenty of learning opportunities. The teaching each day is informal and friendly and will include the opportunity for candidates to lead groups themselves.
How do I join?
You must register for this award with Mountain Training before you can take part in the training course. Registration costs £65 – payable to Mountain Training upon registering. This gives you access to the superb DLOG online logbook. You must then personally undertake and log an absolute minimum of 10 varied walks in lowland terrain where the use of a map is required, OR have attended a Hill and Mountain Skills Scheme course. You will then be eligible to attend the Lowland Leader training course.
