Mongolia Expedition - Mount Khuiten

A rare opportunity to visit Mongolia, explore the Altai mountain range, and climb to the summit of the highest mountain in the range, not to mention in the country - Mount Khuiten at 4374m. Mount Khuiten sits right on the border of four countries - Mongolia, Russia, China, and Kazakhstan - this is truly remote mountain country.

Our fully supported mountaineering expedition will start in Ulaanbaatar, the country's capital. We'll head west via a domestic flight to Ulgii, from where we'll head deeper into the wilderness for our first night camping.

We'll explore the White River, home to Kazakh and Tuvan herders, and head up into the mountains to our basecamp. Explore the Potanin Glacier before tackling your first 4000m peak of the trip, Malchin Peak at 4050m. We'll then move up to advanced basecamp, from where we'll make our attempt on Mount Khuiten.

On our way out at the end of our expedition we'll visit the Kazakh Golden Eagle Hunters before heading back to Ulaanbaatar.

Khuiten involves non-technical high-altitude mountaineering. You would need to be comfortable walking in crampons and using an ice axe to cut steps and self arrest. It does involve glacier-crossing, so experience of that would be beneficial.
