MOUNTAIN TRAINING ACCREDITED COURSES
We are accredited providers of the Hill and Mountain Skills Scheme, Lowland Leader Award and Expedition Skills Module, for Mountain Training UK, the governing body for walking, climbing and mountaineering skills courses in the UK. To find out more about Mountain Training UK, visit
HILL SKILLS The Hill Skills course, which is part of Mountain Training's Hill and Mountain Skills Scheme (see above), is suitable for people who already enjoy countryside walks and want to learn the skills to explore some of the UK's moorland and hill walks. This course is suitable for beginners.
MOUNTAIN SKILLS The Mountain Skills Course, which is also part of Mountain Training's Hill and Mountain Skills Scheme (see above), is aimed at those who already have some basic experience of hill walking and want to take on the challenge of the UK's higher mountains.
LOWLAND LEADER AWARD For those who want to embark on a career in walking, or who already take groups out, The Lowland Leader Award, also from Mountain Training, is a nationally recognised award that qualifies you to lead groups in lowland, countryside and coastal regions. We run both training and assessment courses.
EXPEDITION SKILLS MODULE We also provide the 'bolt-on' Expedition Skills Module for those who have passed the Lowland Leader Award (also available to Hill and Moorland Leader and Mountain Leader Award holders) and want to be able to lead groups on camping expeditions.
OUR OTHER COURSES
LAKE DISTRICT WINTER SKILLS COURSES Our very popular two-day Winter Skills courses are held in the Lake District. These courses teach you how to use an ice axe and crampons, as well as giving hints and tips on winter clothing and equipment, navigation, weather forecasts, and what to do in an emergency. Our Winter Skills courses are a great way to experience the mountains at their very best.
SCOTTISH WINTER SKILLS COURSE Each year we also run a five-day Scottish Winter Skills course in the Cairngorms, which gives you the opportunity to expand your winter walking skills still further, learning everything that's taught on the two-day course above, plus avalanche awareness, building emergency snow shelters and navigation in winter conditions. Five full days in the winter mountains is also a great way to consolidate your learning.
NAVIGATION COURSES Our full range of navigation courses for everyone, from beginner through to advanced level, all run by one of the most experienced instructors in the business!
NIGHT NAVIGATION WORKSHOPS Our Night Navigation workshops are also very popular. We hold them on a few evenings during autumn and winter, and they are the ideal way to learn poor visibility navigation with an experienced instructor.
